TO ARTISTS & PARTICIPANTS /

Yuvai Noah Harari

"Each and every one of us has been born into a given historical reality, ruled by particular norms and values, and managed by a unique economic and political system. We take this reality for granted, thinking it is natural, inevitable and immutable. We forget that our world was created by an accidental chain of events, and that history shaped not only our technology, politics and society, but also our thoughts, fears and dreams. The cold hand of the past emerges from the grave of our ancestors, grips us by the neck and directs our gaze towards a single future. We have felt that grip from the moment we were born, so we assume that it is a natural and inescapable part of who we are. Therefore we seldom try to shake ourselves free, and envision alternative futures."

FUEGOSOCIETY is an underground collective focusing on sensory-driven atmospheres of experimentation. We hail from many countries from around the world, bringing diverse backgrounds and disciplines together, and are primarily based in Tokyo.

Our goal is to create and explore alternate realities, vast arrays of self-expression, and shared experiences, through any and all forms of art, visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, or tactile. We embrace the entire spectrum, from traditional to contemporary, to unconventional and obscure.

We organize experiential and interactive performances of immersive art, exhibition, and free space.

We encourage everyone to push the limits of their own self-expression.

A scorpion wants to cross a river but can’t swim, so it asks a frog to carry it across. The frog hesitates, afraid the scorpion might sting it, but the scorpion promises not to, pointing out that they would both drown if the scorpion killed the frog in the middle of the river.

The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies,

"I am sorry, but I couldn't help it. It's in my nature."

「 NEEDLESS 」 013

GALLERY PAICHU ROPPONGI

The newly opened Gallery PAICHU, in collaboration with Fuego Society, welcomes you to attend an extraordinary live performance titled “Needles”. This unparalleled experience will feature RVINS & SYN bringing the audience on a profound journey through the sound and the pain of the skin. Through the use of contact microphones and sensors attached to both coil and rotary tattoo machines, SYN will craft an unrepeatable and one-of-a-kind live set of experimentation using the vibration and movement of a live tattoo session by the Maestro: RVINS, as the input for his synthesizers and machines.

For the first and last time, this extraordinary moment will come to life in this space that the artists will co-create and share with the public. This one-day only performance is scheduled on Monday, June 12th at 8:00PM sharp (Doors: 7:30PM). Simultaneously, this moment will forever leave its mark on the skin of a volunteer, offering their body as a living canvas for the live performance act.

SYN, prolificent track maker from and live hardware from Japan, with his core is noise, industrial, and dark techno, portrays conflicting sceneries and emotions within his own sound as he will unfold his live set. The live set, is beautifully fed with the vibrations and art, in the form of live tattoo work by RVINS (Jeremy Strength), renomed tattoo, graffiti artist and illustrator with international acclaim and mixed roots between Florida and Hawaii (US)

As per Fuego signature style, none of the attendees are aware of what is about to unfold. The invitation is extended to the audience to immerse in this unique, intimate, and once-in-a-lifetime event, an event where the very sound of skin will become the ultimate instrument of artistry.

「 HANOI TAKEOVER 」 011

BIRDCAGE HANOI VIETNAM 122022

Your beloved Tokyo based friends are visiting Vietnam to bring the energy and diversity of the Japan capital underground scene to Hanoi. “From Tokyo With Love” or infamously named “Hanoi Takeover” is a full program of art and music acts ready to take over the city for 3 days of magic and friendship. “From Tokyo With Love” is the perfect way to celebrate, join a smiling atmosphere and take part in an international family.

This collaboration is the first international event orchestrated and executed with the synergy between Gallery Ether, Fuego Society and Sante Visioni. Within a full 3 days of extravaganza including art, party, food and performances on the 2nd day (December 10th) Fuego Society brings to Vietnam a taste of the underground with two powerful performances:

The first one at Kali, 7.00pm the meal is served with special entertainment. A special shibari performance by Pablo and Ai will take place for all the attendees. The couple, on their way back to Japan after a year of performances in Spain and around Europe, perform with Kojiro, prolific Tokyo festivals organizer and DJ. Hidden Layer Studio X Rebirth unveils the void.

Later at midnight SYN (Selfless Service) and Jeremy Strength (RVINS) set the stage ablaze at BirdCage with an one-of-a-kind performance melting together tattoo and live hardware.

Connected through “contact microphones” on the tattoo guns, Selfless Service is able to modulate and transform into audio the vibrations, the pain and emotions of the live tattoo executed from Jeremy on a volunteer patient.
The result is an hour-long, high-octane hardware set, packed with an intense mix of blood and noise.

Once the tattoo is completed the duo kicks off a live set featuring the power of the experimental gears from Selfless Service, IZAK and Kojiro. The whole trip comes alive through the mesmerizing live AV performance of EИNA.

「From Tokyo With Love」または「Hanoi Takeover」とも呼ばれるこのプログラムは、3日間の魔法と友情で街を制覇するために準備された、アートと音楽のフルプログラムです。「From Tokyo With Love」は、祝うための完璧な方法であり、笑顔のある雰囲気に参加し、国際的な家族に参加するためのものです。

Syu-kai was a 5-course fusion dinner + paired shibari performance.

On November 19th from 7.00pm experience an exquisite fusion of culinary and artistic delights. The creations of two head chefs from Tokyo’s top restaurants intertwine seamlessly with a stunning shibari performance by Garen Shodo, a master in both shibari and traditional calligraphy from Fukuoka, Japan.

The unique dining experience is hosted at Entanglement, a traditional Japanese house transformed into an art space, in the heart of the peculiar neighborhood of Yoshiwara.

As the artist states: “Humans are the only creatures that seek blessings. The garden, the apple, the desire - when we're willing to risk destroying our current situation, we take a bite of the apple. Once desire emerges, emotions such as anxiety, shame, and pain often follow.”

Indulge in the:

Fuego originated as a gathering in the countryside of northern Italy back in 2013 from the desire to create a new kind of feast, connecting underground unusual arts and artists.

Taking place in a farmhouse converted into a house of worship, forming a cult of artistic freedom, we organized events over 5 years. Hosting art exhibitions, performances, live music, and unusual attractions {escape rooms, horror paths into the woods, and live cinema- to name a few}.

The concept of Fuego was always red, horror, grunge, esoteric, an underground revenge, a cult of strange, a visceral rejection of socially accepted norms. It was a night to be free, to express who we really are. A dance of our inner fires.

After going on hiatus for years, Fuego reappeared in Tokyo in March, 2021. Participants were sent a QR code guiding them to an abandoned building which required them to find the cult gathering through a clue left in a dilapidated stairwell. Gathered on a rooftop in the district of Koenji, unannounced to the attendees, we began with a ritual initiation ceremony led by a butoh dancer in a white silk kimono subsequently covered herself in blood and burned her clothes in a bonfire. There were live performances of Shibari, live painting, and butoh surrounded by exhibiting artists showcasing photography, analog and digital mixed media, and an interactive exhibit in a converted water closet. The night ended with music, drinks, and food from our in-house noodle bar. A month later we would host an experimental noise performance and party at a coin laundry in Ikebukuro, followed by a very special and intimate gathering for an artist performance/exhibition, and launch a series of live/streaming events. This is only the beginning..

Fuego is expanding and we are now oriented to create tailored and unique experiences, art and events collaborating with artists and different realities, overwhelmed with the community that is forming around us.
